@RITPress Sorry about the late response. How can we help with the new book? Any info/links we can publicize for you?
@dotb Really nice work mate. Loved the video, too. Inspired me to ticker with an Arduino soon.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
@rashmiswamy Thanks, I can’t wait for it to start.
@deanfra Haven’t taken my SLR for trips in a while, but it’s a must for this one.
@adriancb all the best in NYC mate.
Road trip through Rajasthan starts soon. Nine cities, 16 forts and palaces, all that food and culture… Boy I’m excited.
@rekharach Awesome. But he shouldn’t be chewing on the box :)
The humble pen and paper (or whiteboard) serve me far better in designing and conveying UI concepts – discussions focus more on the story.
Wireframes in design are much like a film’s storyboard, but early versions are better judged as a film’s script: on the story, not visuals.
@deanfra LOL, we had no announcements at Sandown for 50 minutes. Silence. People were clueless and losing it.
@deanfra The delays were insane. I just went back home.
@grahamrb Pixemator and Acorn do the job well.
Facebook’s newsfeed view is possibly the biggest design opportunity of 2013 — aggregating, inferring and visualising all that social data…
Now this is a better local election message — clear practical goals and shared in person at the local train station. http://t.co/djswY1uN
@owenhodda We asked users what they wanted in a website and they said “I want it to be like an iPhone app.”
@wordsfromwongy LOL. You’ll be my speech writer.
And why are election campaigns limited to election times? We never hear from candidates during the year and now we have to believe them?
@andrewlitvak sounds like they deserve your vote. Can’t say the same of candidates here.
@grahamrb haha that’s an improvement. But still, you only hear f these guys during election time and they all say the same thing…
Local election ads are all the same: Cheesy portrait and “Vote 1” in large, empty slogan about working for the community, and not much else.
@JZ Great work on Basecamp’s speed. But mobile use doesn’t have to imply “bandwidth starved” – I use it around the office all the time.
@deanfra Sweet, but is that feature enabled by default? Doesn’t work for me and I couldn’t find it in Settings either
@c0up Amen to that.
And that’s the fourth train too full to board. #peakhour
To anyone designing mobile web apps: take a good look at Basecamp on your phone. Insanely fast, lean and clear.
@deanfra it’s been working fine for me around Melbourne.
@grahamrb LTE’s draining it maybe?
@grahamrb NO! Maybe you should have lined up after all…
@trowdy That too, yes! So annoying.
I cringe when I hear a design described as “sexy” or “lickable” — the thought of them actually doing that to a screen…
@grahamrb better they take the time than take me up some wrong ally.
Who cares what nerds think about iPhones and Androids. The product that resonates with regular people’s lives is ultimately the better one.
Skeuomorphic design haters (me included): remember that the humble button, folder and desktop have skeumorphic roots too. Subtlety is key.
@deanfra Good luck working with FarmVille Fiona in the background :p
Respect to @digg for redesigning and relaunching out of near-oblivion. Quality work, but their future still hangs on quality content.
@xAbhishek I’ve had endless trouble with the new Tumblr IP. I’ve updated my A record to no effect. Any tips?
The joy of receiving a beautifully packaged book from @uniteditions: Herb Lubalin’s monograph. http://t.co/YkVeWctZ
@owenhodda Scumbag Abbott. How he gets away with answers like that is beyond me.
Context trumps consistency in UI design. Style guides are just that, guidelines. They don’t deal with every real situation, but you have to.
Kill time looking for an interesting typeface or spend the time making your copy interesting.
“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” —Einstein
@grahamrb looks like the real thing. Quite nice.
@killamouseski Look at that smile! Great to see him in action again.
Refresh buttons have no place in today’s apps. They’re a shameful admission of outdated content. Consider auto-refresh or pull-to-refresh.
Announcing @metrotrains disruptions because they can’t seem to: Defective train on the Pakenham line holding everything up. Yet again.
Loved the interiors of Hamer Hall and DesignInc. “@MelbOpenHouse: Thank you Melbourne for helping us hit 135,000 visits over the weekend!”
@killamouseski Hurts to hear that, Chim. Get well Ziggy.
@established1987 Nice. You should also see architecture in real life at Melbourne Open House this weekend. Look it up.
@oddysee It’s just faster and smoother. Tab switching gestures are really nice and the unified search/address was much needed.
Safari’s awesome again. Thanks Apple.
@Pesterino That’s a big smile! Great photo.
@andrewlitvak Of course. It’s just taking forever to download.
@andrewlitvak Yeah. It’s not right for the obvious ones, but if being aware of the alternate options is critical, then push it right.
@andrewlitvak Apple has placed primary actions on the right before. Highlighting it is key. On right can help users scan the other options.
@souvikdg I jumped on that deal too. No regrets. Loving the Mac app in particular.
Is there an online grid system for controlling the vertical rhythm? Most frameworks are columnar. The web needs a modular grid system.
“Well done is better than well said.” – Benjamin Franklin
@grahamrb more like Eminem ;)
Art direction for NGOs is an art in itself. Political correctness while provoking action, and privacy restrictions on people shots (victims)
C’mon Minister Bowen! http://t.co/XCtGTOB0
A developed nation we may be, but there is nothing developed about our public transportation system. Woefully unreliable and expensive.
@metrotrains delays over 25 minutes on the Pakenham line and not a single announcement?
Writing is the most overlooked skill in UI design. Copywriters prepare content, but functional copy (headings, form labels…) is up to you.
@melizaho I don’t know how they get away with it.
@grahamrb But I assume it’s for credit card processing, and I’m making a group booking for a bunch of people. Not fair.
Typography can’t hide your dull copy. Textures won’t fix your weak composition. Focus on the epicentre. Be creative in the right things.
@established1987 Amazing. Who’s desk is that? Birthday?
@trowdy Fair article. Imagine if print designers didn’t understand typography or the printing process.
@trowdy LOL thanks.
@deanfra Today it’s called UX, tomorrow something else. I just design for humans and try not to use the acronym version of User Experience.
@deanfra Pretty much. It’s what User Experience stood for historically, but overuse and misuse has misrepresented its real focus (People!)
@deanfra I know it’s stretching it, but substitute ‘user’ with ‘human’ and the distinctions in design and channels start to fade away.
@deanfra They are interacting with your store’s staff, brochures, ads or floor plan at a psychological level. In that sense, they are users.
Sometimes, the best user experience design is NOT to make a website or iPhone app. Could you design a better store or phone service instead?
@amolpradhan Those things are dangerous I tell ya
I need an umbrella to counter the surrounding umbrellas from taking my eyes out.
@andrewlitvak You’d think there’d be more left handers at a company like Twitter :)
@andrewlitvak Why is that poor design? The tap area is different and the end result contextual.
@jymmysim Yep, Nitin’s music sure has that vibe with bit more synth. Love working to his tunes.
/via @oddysee (thanks!)
@uniteditions Will there ever be a re-print of TD 63-73? I missed out and would LOVE to order.
What an incredible race, Valencia! Brilliant driving from Alonso, and Schumi on the podium! (His car not breaking down for once.) #F1
@andrewlitvak LOL, it was temporary (during some Agile conf.) and I’d forgotten to follow you again, oops…
@melizaho You must’ve been in some seriously deep sleep. My whole house was shaking.
@carlalindarte How big was the Christchurch one you felt? Must’ve been even scarier. They’re saying it was 5.2 here.
Haven’t felt an #earthquake like that in Melbourne before.
@grahamrb hope it was nothing major. Work related?
@amolpradhan Ah yes, forgotten it looks similar to what we saw.
The honey hunters of Nepal: http://t.co/R41xGXSZ
@miranj Looks great! Didn’t realise it was a teaser site at first and was expecting to see/do more. Was confused until I re-read your tweet.
@grahamrb nice time there man. Good weather for it.
@miranj Where do you guys host your code? Locally? GitHub? I’m done with local repos; need something more flexible.
@melizaho Nah, that was a general observation than any one client or situation.
In the end, your design can only be as good as your client.
@rungta Also, the typography and overall polish on Loremo is exquisite. Your best, modernist design to date.
@grahamrb I’m going to order one as soon as I see the screen for real. Can’t wait. When’ yours shipping?
@rjs If the copy block must be think, I often include a visual beside it for focus and balance.
@k_tang LOVE all the notes you’ve left us. Yep, let’s reschedule that handover :)
P.S. Enzo looks adorable.
@andrewlitvak To innovate, you have to stop saying innovate and just do great things. Also, you have to enjoy your holiday –get off Twitter!
@timmackay The only great app by Microsoft (other than Notepad and Paint)
@rashmiswamy Happy birthday! Cake on a Sunday morning sounds like a perfect start. Have fun.
@miranjdesign Happy first birthday!
@owenhodda Hell no. I would’ve been very disappointed if that was by default.
@owenhodda Is that enabled by default?
@xAbhishek Thanks so much for bringing Bret Victor’s talk to my attention. Truly inspiring and deeply thought provoking.
@grahamrb Looks productive :) Where are you?
@andrewlitvak I had to run, sorry!
@juleshughan Aww, well done!
@deanfra Glad I took the day off :) Thanks for the heads up.
@rungta Wow!! Great stuff.
Design history will look back at all this ‘minimalist’ as simply modernist. Modernism never ended.
Architects should not have terrible websites.
@rungta ooh that’s a nice travel site. Know them?
@andrewlitvak well, the name sounds ridiculous.
@andrewlitvak what on earth is an ‘Ultrabook’?
Amazon, please hurry up and ship my copy of Saul Bass. The wait is killing me. http://t.co/f25VCnNL
